Founders Trophy Winner!
All Member competitions will be held on the Stoney Creek
Course. This is the front nine of the Old Course and the
Lakes nine. The couch grass planting will commence on
Nov 7 and history shows we will be back playing the full old
course in time for the club championships in Early
February.
Back 9 Out of Play
Our annual Foursomes Championships are not far away.
The Women’s will be played over 2 Saturdays, 9 & 16
November and the Men will battle it out over 36 holes on 16
November.
What is Foursomes? Most golfers consider Foursomes the
most challenging of all the formats played. In Foursomes,
you play with a partner and only have 1 ball in play. You
then take alternate shots until the ball is holed. You also
take alternate tee shots.
Foursomes Coming up
With the course drying out and no more play on the back 9,
preferred lies will no longer be a local rule. Please note: If
you move your ball (because you forgot) it is a one stroke
penalty each time you do it.

Congratulations to the winners of the Dot White Trophy
Jenny Taylor & Michelle Desaulniers.
The Dot White Trophy was named in appreciation of Dot's
contribution to the club and to the women of Beaconhills.
She served as Lady President twice and worked tirelessly at
presenting our club to its best advantage at all times.
Traditionally we wear pearls to honour Dot, as she always
came to lunch wearing her pearls.
Dot White Trophy Winners!
The shockwave machine has been used on some parts of the course on the edge of fairways. The slice marks created by this process are considered an ‘Abnormal Ground Condition’ and free relief may be taken.

You can also improve your stance,
swing, driving, chipping and putting
as Mark Griffin is returning to
conduct lessons at Beaconhills. Mark
will be available for lessons on
Sundays between 9am and 5pm at a
cost of $99 for a 1 hour lesson. For
those who don’t know Mark, he was
the resident pro here at Beaconhills
for over 30 years and has an intricate
knowledge of the golf swing and how
to improve your game.

What is GUR?
GUR stands for Ground Under Repair. There are several
scenarios in which this is used however it is generally
as it states – the area is being repaired.
How Do I Know What is GUR?
GUR is marked with white paint or white posts for larger
areas.
Can you play out of GUR?
Yes. However, if you are in ‘Compulsory GUR’ you
cannot play out this and you must take relief.
How do I take relief?
If you decide to take relief, you must take ‘full relief’. This
means you find your ‘nearest point’ no nearer the hole
outside of the GUR. The nearest point is the point at
which you can play your ball outside of the GUR without
standing in the GUR. The process is to mark your ball in
the GUR, and once the nearest point has been
identified you must mark that point. You may clean
your ball and then drop it within 1 club length, no nearer
the hole, from the point you have marked.
Do I get a penalty?
No, it is free relief from GUR.
