Stakes, Hoops and Ropes

The stakes, hoops and ropes that are up to restrict access to various parts of the course are ‘moveable obstructions’. If your ball strikes any of these obstructions, you play your ball where it lies. You cannot replay your shot. If you feel you are at risk of hitting a moveable obstruction or it interferes with your swing of stance, you may move it. You must put it back after you have played your shot.

Ropes Around Greens

The 5th, 10th and 14th greens all have ropes up in front of
them.
Please do not take push buggies through these
ropes as it creates unacceptable wear in these areas at
this time of year.

Practice Green Chipping

Please note that small chipping only is allowed around the practice putting green near the club house. You must only chip from within the blue line and any chips that leave any sort of mark on the green are not permitted. If you would like to practice larger chips, please use the practice hole at the end of the Lakes 9.

Top 16 teams qualify

The John Barker Winter Cup is a 4 Ball Better Ball (4BBB) Handicap Matchplay event. Qualifying is a 4BBB Par round. You team up with a partner and in the qualifying round you count the best score of you and your partner on each hole.

During the handicap matchplay part of the event, 2 pairs compete against each other and the player with the lowest handicap goes to scratch (0). All of the other players handicaps move to the difference between the lowest handicap and their own. Example.

Team 1. Bill's handicap is 4 and Tom's is 12

Team 2. Jason's handicap is 7 and Mark's is 16.

When these two teams play each other, Bill goes to 0, Tom, 8, Jason, 3 and Mark 12.

They play each other in matchplay and Tom, Jason and Mark receive strokes on the holes indexed according to their handicap. In the matchplay the winner of each hole is determined by the player who has the lowest nett (strokes less handicap) score.

Monthly Medal Playoff

Michael Anderson and Nathan Cluckie tied for the July Monthly Medal with +4. They will play off for the July Medal during the August Monthly Medal.

Rule - Posts & Stakes

What do the various posts & stakes on the course mean?

As you make your way around the course you will see posts & stakes of varied colour. Those colours mean something as follows:

White post: Ground Under Repair (GUR)

White post with black top: Out of Bounds

Red stake: Penalty Area

Yellow stake: Penalty Area

What you can/must do in each of the above situations can be found here. Print one off and put it in your bag. If you would like a laminated copy - please see the office.

Then there are the posts that the give distance to the centre of the green.

Yellow posts: 200m (Par 5's only)

Blue posts: 150m

Red posts: 100m
